A record number of new models

Since the beginning of 2026, Ukraine’s Ministry of Defence has codified and approved for use by the Defence Forces 1,678 new models of weapons and military equipment, the ministry said on October 3, as reported by Ukrinform.

Of these, 1,530 models, or 91.2%, were manufactured at Ukrainian enterprises. The ministry also recalled that 650 unmanned aerial systems have been codified since the start of the year, most of them Ukrainian-made.

Codification means a model is officially approved for service with the military. According to the ministry, the new models potentially give troops additional capabilities for combat missions: engaging the enemy, conducting reconnaissance, and protecting personnel and logistics.

25 times more than in 2022

The pace of codification of domestic weapons has increased sharply since Russia’s full-scale invasion began. In 2022, 60 Ukrainian models were approved for service; in 2026 the number reached 1,530, a 25.5-fold increase. The share of domestically produced equipment supplied for the military’s needs has risen by 67.3% since the start of the full-scale war, the ministry said.

“It is important that, in wartime, military equipment manufacturers are working to adapt their products to changes on the battlefield and can receive feedback from the military. This is necessary to more quickly implement solutions within the military that meet the current needs of the Defence Forces,” the ministry stated.

1,560 kilometres of protected roads

On the same day the ministry reported on protecting logistics from drones. Since the start of 2026, Ukraine’s State Special Transport Service, acting on a directive from the ministry, has installed more than 1,560 km of anti-drone protection along key logistics routes.

In September alone, nearly 170 km of such protection was built in frontline regions and more than 106 km of roads were repaired. In total, since restoration work began in April, routine repairs and maintenance have been carried out on more than 660 km of roads. Work is under way on eight sections, while 50 sections have been fully completed.

As Ukrinform reported earlier, about 270 km of roads in the Kherson region alone are now covered with anti-drone nets.

Why it matters

Both reports show how the war has changed Ukraine’s defence industry and logistics. More than 90% of the new models approved for service this year were made in Ukraine, while some roads in frontline regions are turning into netted corridors meant to shield the movement of people and supplies from attack drones.
